Nocmyr ANATOMY

Return to Nocmyr Species Directory

overview

Nocmyr have three forms: true form, half form, and draconic form. Their true form is derived from the Revera’s human form, their half form from the Revera’s true form, and their draconic form from the Revera’s feral form. They are able to shift between forms with ease, though it uses energy. Nocmyr can “tuck” their wings into their bodies in their true form and half form, but they are always shown in draconic form.

THE VISUALS SHOWN ARE NOT RULES. NOCMYR MAY HAVE ANY BODY TYPE OR BE ANY RACE. THESE BASES ARE FOR ANATOMY REFERENCE ONLY.

  • Nocmyr have two sexes, female, XX, and male, XY, like their Revera ancestors. Nocmyr are mesothermic, lactate, and give live birth.
  • Nocmyr have three eyes with slit pupils and their scleras are not normally visible in their eye socket, but they are any color paler than the iris. They have a tapetum lucidum to see in the dark, and makes their eyes shine in the light.
  • Nocmyr have four fingers and a thumb on all limbs, including wings, with the exception of those with feathered wings, in which they have a single thumb.
  • Nocmyr are capable of contracting various illnesses, parasites, and genetic disorders.
  • Nocmyr can regenerate parts of lost tails with each shed. They cannot regenerate any other limbs.

draconian form

The characteristic form of the Nocmyr is their draconian form, derived from their Revera ancestors’ feral form. It is quadrupedal, with four fingers and a thumb on their hands and four toes and a dewclaw on their hind legs. Nocmyr can vary in body shape and come in any color or pattern. Nocmyr display any possible dermal growths or filaments in this form. The only distinct sexual dimorphism in this form is that males are slightly larger with denser bones on average.

Nocmyr heads are long, narrow, and most similar to that of a spinosaurid. They have serrated teeth, a forked tongue, and three eyes, one in the center of their forehead. Nocmyr eyes have slit pupils that contract in the light, irises of any color, and scleras of a paler color.

subtypes

The Earthen Nocmyr were very much a transitional species forced to evolve in the hot environment caused by anthropogenic climate change and the radiation from the nuclear apocalypse. The Sialli Nocmyr are more of a fully realized species; they have developed four distinct subtypes, adapted for the different hemispheres of Siablan.

western
  • The most similar to their ancestral species, the Western Nocmyr are lean, strong, and have a long, stiff tail. They have an athletic build and the largest muscle to body fat ratio in all forms. They’re able to respond and adapt to most climates. They’re most concentrated in the Western Hemisphere.

eastern
  • Thin, with an elongated body and long legs, the Eastern Nocmyr are built for speed. They have large wings and a deep chest cavity for sustained and high altitude flight. They have a long, whiplike tail. They have a tall, narrow frame and very little body fat in both forms. They’re most concentrated in the Eastern Hemisphere.

northern
  • The Northern Nocmyr are broad-shouldered, barrel-chested, and muscular, with a thicker tail. They’re the largest subtype, an example of polar gigantism. They have a tall frame and have large amounts of fat and muscle in all forms. They’re most concentrated in the Northern Hemisphere.

southern
  • The Southern Nocmyr are small and fat. Their tails are the same length as a standard, except they store large amounts of fat to withstand long periods of time without eating or drinking. They are short and fat in all forms. They’re most concentrated in the Southern Hemisphere.

Marine
  • With gills, stout, cylindrical bodies, thick legs with webbed digits, and a sturdy paddlelike tail, Marine Nocmyr are built for swimming. They inhabit waters all over the globe, although they tend to prefer warm coastal regions to make their kingdoms.

Weights

Nocmyr come in every shape and size!

Western
Underweight
  • Underweight Western Nocmyr look a bit off balance. Their bodies have lost their fat reserves, resulting in a thin appearance, looking awkward compared to their wings. Without a prominent belly, their rib and hip bones are more prominent. These Nocmyr aren’t in any immediate danger of starvation; and can carry on with regular life without risk of catabolism. Some Nocmyr are just skinny, and that’s okay!
Overweight
  • Overweight Western Nocmyr have stocky appearances, looking much like a standard Northern, but smaller. They develop fatter necks, their forelimbs are thick, their bellies hang low, and their tails are thicker and stiffer, and they’re less flexible overall. If otherwise healthy; these Nocmyr are capable of flying and living as normal. It takes more work to achieve powered flight, but as long as the Nocmyr exercises and eats healthily, their lungs and heart are fine. Some Nocmyr are just fat, and that’s okay! In fact, it’s considered attractive, as it implies a higher social status; eating well, a lack of physical labor, and traveling less.

Eastern

Underweight
  • Yikes! Becoming underweight is extremely dangerous for Eastern Nocmyr. Their body is forced into catabolysis; burning muscle for sustenance due to lack of food stores. They’re at risk for a slow, painful death of starvation. All the bones of the Nocmyr become prominent, their spines and ribs pushing out of the skin, the face becomes sunken, without its fatty cheeks, and their limbs are spindly and weak. The Nocmyr does not have enough energy to fly, and is completely grounded, or risks dying of exertion.
Overweight
  • Overweight Eastern Nocmyr still have visible ribs. They resemble a Western Nocmyr that’s been stretched out, with thicker necks and tails. These Nocmyr can fly without issue, as long as they’re eating and exercising well to support their heart and lung health. Some Nocmyr are just fat! These Nocmyr are actually considered very attractive due to their figure! They’re clearly eating well and living a life without hard labor or constant travel, all while maintaining long, elegant bodies.

Northern
Underweight
  • Underweight Northern Nocmyr look much like Western Nocmyr, only much larger. They have visible ribs and look awkward due to their thick muscles. Without a prominent belly, their rib and hip bones are more prominent. These Nocmyr aren’t in any immediate danger of starvation; and can carry on with regular life without risk of catabolism. Some Nocmyr are just skinny, and that’s okay!
Overweight
  • Overweight Northern Nocmyr resemble Southern Nocmyr, only much larger. They have stocky appearances, develop fatter necks, their forelimbs are thick, their bellies hang low, and their tails are fat and stiffer, and they’re less flexible overall.

Southern
Underweight
  • Underweight Southern Nocmyr simply resemble young Western Nocmyr. Their tails may look lumpy, due to depleted natural fat stores. They still retain enough fat to support regular activity, with no danger of catabolism. Some Nocmyr are just skinny!
Overweight
  • Overweight Southern Nocmyr contain an excess of fat stores. They develop thick necks, rolls of fat on their bodies, a low belly, wide limbs, and their tails swell until they no longer have a tapered end. In order to achieve this weight, a Nocmyr must live a very terrestrial lifestyle while consuming large amounts of food, because flying naturally burns a lot of calories. This results in powered flight being extremely taxing or impossible on an overweight Southern Nocmyr, as the atrophied heart and lungs simply cannot support the increased weight.

Marine
Underweight
  • Underweight Marine Nocmyr look a bit off balance.
Overweight
  • Overweight Marine Nocmyr have stocky appearances, looking much like a standard Northern, but smaller.

HALF FORM

A transitional form between a Nocmyr’s true and draconian forms, the half form is an anthropomorphic form derived from Revera’s true form. It is bipedal with digitigrade legs, a long neck and a draconian head with three eyes. The half form displays all markings of a Nocmyr’s draconian form, along with all dermal growths or filaments. Nocmyr display sexual dimorphism in this form. Nocmyr may show or tuck their wings in this form. Notably, the wing membranes of Membrane wings only extend down the back in this form, not the tail.

Weights

Nocmyr come in every shape and size, and that holds true for their bipedal forms as well! Nocmyr will display the same fat distribution in both of their bipedal forms. Females store more fat than males on average.

Western
Underweight
  • Underweight Western Nocmyr resemble Eastern Nocmyr, only shorter. Their tail and limbs are thinner, and they have visible ribs. They typically retain muscle mass, resulting in a lean appearance. Their necks will be thin.
Overweight
  • Overweight Western Nocmyr store fat in their tails, thighs, forearms, and most prominently, belly. This fat protects a ton of powerful natural muscle, and these Nocmyr can bench you. These Nocmyr are considered powerful and attractive! Their necks will develop fat rolls.

Eastern
Underweight
  • Becoming underweight is extremely dangerous for Eastern Nocmyr. Their body is forced into catabolysis; burning muscle for sustenance due to lack of food stores. Because of this, they have a skinny, starved appearance, a gaunt face, a whip-thin tail, and visible ribs and spine. Their necks will be thin, and their vertebrae visible.
Overweight
  • Overweight Eastern Nocmyr do not get as fat as their other counterparts. They gain a curvier appearance. Even the thinner tail types will thicken, but maintain their flexibility. These Nocmyr are considered very attractive! Their necks will develop fat rolls.

Northern
Underweight
  • Underweight Northern Nocmyr resemble Western Nocmyr, only much larger. With a broad frame, these Nocmyr look a bit off-center. Their ribs may be visible, and they are mostly pure muscle. Their necks will be thick.
Overweight
  • Overweight Northern Nocmyr resemble larger Southern Nocmyr. With thick, muscular frames, these Nocmyr are prone to gaining additional fat. This fat protects a large amount of powerful muscle! These Nocmyr are considered strong and very attractive! Their necks will develop fat rolls.

Southern
Underweight
  • Underweight Southern Nocmyr are short and scrawny. They resemble young Western Nocmyr. Despite most of their tail fat reserves being depleted, they retain a wide appearance, and their ribs are not visible. Their necks will be thick.
Overweight
  • Overweight Southern Nocmyr get the fattest of the subtypes. They display a more balanced fat distribution on their bodies compared to others. They’re stocky, have multiple fat rolls, and their tails are so swollen they are no longer tapered at the end. Their necks will develop fat rolls.

Marine
Underweight
  • Underweight Marine Nocmyr resemble Eastern Nocmyr, only shorter. Their tail and limbs are thinner, and they have visible ribs. They typically retain muscle mass, resulting in a lean appearance. Their necks will be thin.
Overweight
  • Overweight Marine Nocmyr store fat in their tails, thighs, forearms, and most prominently, belly. This fat protects a ton of powerful natural muscle, and these Nocmyr can bench you. These Nocmyr are considered powerful and attractive! Their necks will develop fat rolls.

TRUE FORM

The true form of Nocmyr is the form they are born in, derived from Revera’s human form. It is humanoid and digitigrade, with the tail and Nocmyr ears. Nocmyr have only two eyes in this form. This form features human skin with body hair covering the body, and scales covering the forearms up to the elbows and the bottom two segments of the legs, up to the knee. Bodily filaments or dermal growths are not shown in this form, except for that located on the tail. Nocmyr maintain their sharp teeth and forked tongue in this form. Nocmyr true forms may display any human phenotype. Nocmyr display sexual dimorphism in this form. Nocmyr may show or tuck their wings in this form. Notably, the wing membranes of Membrane wings only extend down the back in this form, not the tail. Nocmyr have a visible belly button in this form.
