AGING and growth

Return to Gannea Species Directory

aging

Gannea have extended life spans compared to their ancestor species, and can live up to 1,000 Sialla years. Gannea age rapidly and then slow down past 250. Gannea celebrate their birthdays every 5 Gallan sub-years. *5 Gallan sub-years is 10 Sialla months.

  • Gannea age/10 = human equivalent (300/10 = 30 human years).
  • Gannea come of age at 200 years (equivalent 20 human years).
  • Gannea may continue to grow until 250 years (equivalent 25 human years).
  • Gannea become infertile at 750 years (equivalent 75 human years).
  • Gannea’s maximum height is 6’6”.
calendar

Gannea keep a separate calendar, the Gallan calendar, than the standard Sialli calendar, due to their shorter life span.

As stated previously, Siablan takes 54 hours to rotate on its tilted axis, with a 3 hour dawn, 24 hour day, 3 hour dusk, and 24 hour night. Siablan takes 50 Earth-years to orbit its sun.

*Siablan’s moons do not wax and wane at the same time. Siablan measures its moon cycles by its largest and closest moon, Paera.

  • The Gallan calendar divides the 50 Earth-years of a single orbital year into 5 sub-years.
  • Each sub-year is divided into 10 months.
  • Each month contains 5 full moon cycles, and each moon cycle of 48 days (6 nights of each 8 phases).
  • Each moon constitutes 1 moon cycle, making 48 days per moon.
  • Each moon constitutes 8 weeks, of 6 days each.
  • Its seasons each last for 12.5 Earth-years, or 2.5 sub-years, or 12.5 moons, or 100 weeks, or 600 days.
  • Gannea celebrate the spring and fall equinoxes and summer and winter solstices. The Spring Equinox is a tribute to East, the Summer Solstice a tribute to South, the Fall Equinox a tribute to West, and the Winter Solstice a tribute to North.
YOUNG

Gannea children are much like human children.

  • Gannea children are especially fragile, with their hollow skeleton. They can become injured very easily.
  • Gannea children are born with fur on their tails; regardless of whether they are born with a head of hair or not. Feathers and hair grow in as they age, before they are toddlers.
  • Gannea are extremely protective of their young. Siablan is a dangerous planet, and they fear letting their children out of their sight for too long.
  • Gannea regularly shed claw caps as they grow. They have a set of milk teeth that they lose as children.
