Crysalla OVERVIEW
Return to Crysalla Species Directory
Crysalla [Cree-sallah] (Singular: Crysalla) (ajd. Crysallan) are a crystal draconian species created by Razarath. They are native to the Siablan, a wildly unstable and magical planet shaken by frequent earthquakes, storms, and volcanic eruptions. Crysalla are deeply attuned to their planet and its magic.
Crysalla vary greatly by individual. They can have any type of crystal as their Soul Stone that grows on their body. However, there are five distinct subspecies. Crysalla have three distinct body types: Standard, Serpentine, and Dwarf, and any subspecies can have any body type.
- Crysalla have two forms, their draconian form and their bipedal form. They are able to shift between forms with ease, though it uses energy. A Crysalla whose magic is depleted will be trapped in their form until they regenerate, through eating and sleeping.
- Crysalla draconian forms are quadrupedal with two wings. They have four fingers and an opposable thumb on each thick forearm and wing hand, and four toes and a dewclaw on their hind feet. Their ribcage cavity is large, and their forearms are thick and stout.
- All Crysalla have a Soul Stone, located on their chest and contains their magical essence. A Soul Stone can be any type or color of gemstone (including organic or noncrystalline), and can be genetically inherited, or can develop due to the minerals in the soil the egg hatches in.
- Crysalla have one hermaphroditic sex, with internal gonads and a cloaca, reproduce via penetration, and lay a clutch of one egg after a gestation period of 100 years. Crysalla then bury their egg and the new Crysalla are hatched naked, crystalless, and alone in the world, with only their Soul Stone on their body.
- Crysalla have four pure white superposition compound (meaning they see a single image) eyes that they keep shut, except for when using magic, reading and writing, or hunting and combat. Crysalla eyes are highly sensitive to bright lights. Eyes are the windows to the soul in Sialla culture, and only opened in private with one’s loved ones as a show of trust. Crysalla have a rudimentary photosensitive parietal eye on their foreheads that helps them navigate their world.
- Crysalla can sense vibrations in the ground with their feet, and have advanced hearing in their reptilian ear holes. Crysalla do not have external ears. They taste the air with their tongues. Crysalla do not need their sight to navigate.
- Crysalla have thick, jagged, skulls with a beak without teeth or lips. Crysalla skeletons are highly mineralized, and their bones contain air pockets for flight. their blood is the color of their Soul Stone and crystallizes and when it comes in contact with the nitrogen in air. Their bones and claws are a color from their Soul Stone.
- Crysalla consume rocks containing essential minerals for the health of their Soul Stone. They are otherwise carnivorous and osteovores.
- Crysalla grow crystal growths on their bodies over their lifetimes, and these crystals can be broken off without pain. Crysalla with crystal growths will often have greater magical ability and energy.
- Crysalla have rough, squishy paw pads on each toe. Crysalla hands are very dexterous. They use their wing palms to push themselves off of the earth when taking flight and can grip cliff faces with their wing thumbs.
- Crysalla are cold-blooded reptiles, do not lactate, do not have nipples, and do not have breasts in their bipedal form.
- Crysalla are naturally diurnal, and need sunlight exposure for the health of their skeletons and crystals. Metabolic Bone Disease can be contracted from lack of UV light, and their bones will become twisted and brittle, and their crystals will fall off and not regrow. Effects can be permanent if left to fester.
- Crysalla shed and consume their skin regularly.
- Crysalla can slowly regenerate any lost limbs or body parts over the course of several sheds. Cauterizing the wound can prevent limbs from regenerating, unless the Crysalla has the Fireproof Scales mutation.
- Crysalla flight cruising speed averages at 50mph, 100mph for pressed flight, and up to 350mph for dives.
- Crysalla can fly up to 10 miles high naturally, and up to 25 miles high in East's floating isles.
- Crysalla can be affected by various illnesses, parasites, and genetic disorders.
