AGING AND GROWTH

Return to Crysalla Species Directory

Crysalla live an exponentially long time. Crysalla grow throughout their lifetime until their death. Crysalla grow more powerful, physically and magically, as well as more virile as they age. Older Crysalla are formidable beasts, and will only begin experiencing the effects of old age in the very twilight of their years. The most common symptom of old age as it manifests is moderate to severe degenerative memory problems.

  • Crysalla ovulate once every 1 Sialla year, and the gestation period is 1 year.
  • Crysalla will shed once every Sialla month. *Note: One Sialla month is 5 Earth-years.
aging

*Note: One Sialla orbital year takes 50 Earth-years.

    • Standard & Aquilla age/100 = human equivalent (Ex. 3000/100= 30 human years).
    • Presalla age/100/2.5 = human equivalent (Ex. 10,000/100/2.5= 40 human years).
    • Deities age/100/5 = human equivalent (Ex. 25,000/100/5= 50 human years).
    • Crysalla come of age at 2,000 years (equivalent 20 human years).
growth
  • Standard & Aquila’s maximum height in bipedal form is 10’, and maximum height in draconic form at the shoulder is 20’. These Crysalla live to 10,000 years of age.
  • Presalla’s maximum height in bipedal form is 12’, and maximum height in draconian form at the shoulder is 30’. These Crysalla live to 25,000 years of age.
  • Deities’ maximum height in bipedal form is 15’, and maximum height in draconic form at the shoulder is 40’. These Crysalla live to 50,000 years of age.
  • Gods’ maximum height in bipedal form is 20’, and maximum height in draconic form at the shoulder is 50’. These Crysalla are functionally immortal, and must be killed.
YOUNG

Crysalla babies hatch from an egg, buried in shallow dirt or sand, and claw their way up to the surface to take their first breaths. Aquilla eggs are buried on the coastal shores.

  • Crysalla babies are fat, squishy, and defenseless. They are naked, crystalless, and have only their soul stone on their bodies. They hatch in their draconian form.
  • Crysalla are hatched without any filaments, horns, or dermal growths other than scales. They grow in gradually after hatching, if at all.
  • Crysalla babies are roughly the size of a small dog upon hatching, and easy prey for predators.
  • Crysalla children are expected to live their lives on their own and forge their own path. Most never meet or even know who their parents are. Despite this, Crysalla children are the hallmark of Sialla society, and only a wicked dragon would deny one in need.
  • Crysalla children learn to fend for themselves, and initially keep their eyes open to be alert for predators and hazards, but eventually integrate into society, learning Sialli quickly and shutting their eyes, symbolically rejecting a feral lifestyle and accepting civilization.
  • Crysalla pledge allegiance to one of their four Gods when they turn 2,000. This is most commonly the God whose territory they hatch in, however some may travel far to serve the God they wish to worship.
  • Crysalla children are expected to take up apprenticeships to learn weaving and/or jewelry making as they grow, and to begin making their own clothes, to represent themselves. A growing Crysalla may spend hundreds to thousands of years changing and remaking their clothing.
